Trust Your Journey Even When Times Get Tough – Do You Accept Change or Resist Change?
An article discussing trust your journey and why it is important even when the going gets tough. Do you accept that change is good or do you resist it so that you can stay in your comfort zones and maintain the status quo?
Do you agree that being resistant to change prevents us experiencing more in life, paradigms are not shifted and we prevent our self development and progression through this thing we call life? Perhaps you are familiar with this song from Billy Ocean. “When the going gets tough the tough get going“.
As a former disc jockey myself, having done 1,000 gigs from 1996 to 2006, I loved this song and played it on a regular basis. I find it to be an inspirational song and uplifting and a reminder that when the situation becomes difficult, acknowledge it, step up and handle it.

Trust Your Journey – Change Is Going To Happen
Change is a given in this lifetime of ours so why are we so resistant to accepting it and going with the flow. The reality is that we are all here for only a short time in the scheme of things, so why not make the most of every experience we have both the good and the bad.
There is something to be said about trusting your life’s journey and using the tough times and lessons that help to mould you into your best self. I cannot say that I have always felt this way. Starting out on my own journey I had to learn to trust the journey I was on and go with it and win through. I remember spending time in my life resisting and fighting against the hard times, wishing that everything would just fall into place the way I had planned, and feeling sorry for myself when things got tough.
I have become aware that this is how many of us live our lives, scared of the tough times and constantly trying our best to hold onto the good times. Does this sound familiar to you?
In reality we all know that this is not how life works, but for some reason we still hold onto this idea that we have some sort of power to control what we experience. This is the reason so many people are not content with their lives, so many of us are trying to hold onto the concept that the tough times are bad, and we need to do anything we can to stop them from coming. When in reality it is these tough times that teach us the valuable lessons we need to continue on the journey to becoming our best self.
Today I want to highlight for you some of the main mistakes people tend to make when they are attempting to create success or take control what their lives look like. If you can relate to any of these then maybe it is time for you to begin looking a bit deeper at what you are focusing your energy on, maybe it is time for you to let go of the things that you cannot control.
Trust Your Journey – Comparing yourself with others…
One very common mistake I see so many people making (including myself in the past), is comparing themselves with others. We are all different for a reason, we all have our own unique gifts to share with others, our own unique skills. If we get too caught up in wanting to be like someone else we fall out of balance with who we are.
We are all here to learn different lessons and we all have different paths that are going to take us to where we are meant to be, learning the lessons we are ready to learn at the perfect point in time along the way.
In my opinion it is dangerous to get caught up in comparing yourselves with others because you then begin losing sight of what it is you need in order to learn grow and move along your path in a way that benefits you best. Do you compare yourself to others?
Trust Your Journey – Not letting go of what you want
A second mistake that people tend to make is getting caught up in what you want not what you need and trying to control the areas of life in which you have no control over. When it comes to accepting what you need and letting go of what you want, I can really resonate with a quote from Speaker, author and behavioral scientist Steve Maraboli who said; “As I look back on my life, I realise that every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better.”
This is a really good reminder that we don’t always know what is best for us, and the sooner we stop trying to take control of where life is taking us, we begin to develop gratitude for all of the experiences that come our way, both the good and the bad.
It is great to get into the practice of reminding yourself, that life will not always give you what we want when you want it. Sometimes there is something better waiting for us just around the corner, we simply need to let go and trust that our lives are unfolding perfectly for us.
Maybe one day you may look back and smile, or even laugh. What was I worried about?
Trust Your Journey – Searching outside of yourself for answers
So many people believe that by looking for something outside of themselves to make them happy and fulfilled is the answer, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. As soon as we realise that our happiness comes from within the sooner we can begin working on our internal unease to create calm and acceptance to go with the flow of life. People are so quick to blame others or their outside circumstances for the way they feel or what their life looks like, when in reality this has absolutely nothing to do with our happiness at all.
So many of us believe that our happiness lies in the future, that once we get the pay rise, buy the car or build our dream house we will finally be happy, when in reality once we get there we will always find a new reason not to be happy and then the cycle continues.
It is not until we do the internal work and understand that our happiness purely comes from within, that we can let go of our expectations and live in the moment we find ourselves in. We can then be grateful for what life brings and know that no matter what happens, not matter what we do or don’t own, no matter where we live, we will always be happy. Free yourself of the struggle and let go.
Take back the power and remember that you are the one who has the power of choice… It is the choices you have made throughout your life that have got you to where you are today, have respect for that and use it as a power to move through your life with a better awareness of what life has to offer you.
Remember that it is in these tough times when we learn and grow into the people we need to be to take the next steps forward and become the best versions of ourselves. Be grateful for the life experience you have been gifted and embrace life with strength, love and compassion.
